I Need Some Escapism... Any Recommendations?

I hate TV shows because I have to deal with commercials. But I need some serious escapism so I'd like to hear what everyone recommends from books to movies to TV shows I can rent on Netflix (so I can avoid the commercials).

I rent TV shows on netflix, I generally try popular shows that I have never watched. Not really sure what your interests may run to though. I generally never watch TV shows while they are on so I have had a lot of options.

I have a DVR now so everything I watch is recorded and commercials are no longer a problem.

I just read a book called "How to Build a Dinosaur" that was really interesting. It is about using reverse evolution to create a dinosaur.

If you haven't seen "Big Trouble" with Tim Allen, it is a truly hilarious movie. (Note: Rated PG-13 for truly atrocious language.) The film would probably have been a major box office winner, but it was ready for release just after 9/11, and some of the subject matter would not have been well received coming on the heels of the event. It's based on the novel by Dave Barry, one of my favorite humorists. If you watch it, let me know what you think. You can stream it on Netflix if you have subscription and Netflix capable device.

Netflix online content is pretty good. They've got a lot of television shows available, all without commercials. I'd suggest "Dead Like Me" or "Doctor Who" or "Leverage".

I'd suggest anything with Adam West.

My wife and I have been watching Foyle's War from the beginning which we get from the local library. Just awesome. Not only do you have "who dunnits", but the stories take you back to the 1940's. A good get-away to be sure!

Deadwood is perhaps the best show ever. Up there with the Sopranos, etc...incredibly accurate period detail, beautifully-written, incredibly acted...
