Exhibit One: Dave Grohl of The Foo Fighters. Even though at his best he looks like a malnourished rodent, here he is in the most scorchingly sexy video I’ve ever seen in my entire life. It makes me want to take him by the hand and lovingly feed him a sandwich:
Exhibit Two: Hugh Laurie of House. Either you get this one, or you don’t. Heck, I’m not sure that *I* get it, but if I ever ran into this guy, I think I’d choke to death on my own tongue before I could say “hello”.Exhibit Three: Jeff Goldblum. He had me from the moment I saw The Fly.
Although I’ve dated some men that most people would find startlingly attractive (including Jim Marsden) I think that they pale in comparison to this collection of thuglies.
And don’t think that this is limited to men only. If you’re attracted to Uma Thurman or you think that Charlotte Gainsbourg is wildly attractive, then you, too, are into thuglies.

I like thuglies. Actually, there's pretty much the only type I'm totally attracted to.
CQFD is a thugly. And I love him to death. And nobody compares.
I think women are attracted to thuglies because they're smart, interesting and challenging. Even fox claims "Hugh Laurie is the sex symbol of the thinking woman".

I don't think any of them are thugly. Now if you said Prince...I'd say maybe but he's not hot. Ok, I meant fugly. Ick.
When I first saw this post and had not yet scrolled down, I thought "Hey, Hugh Laurie fits this category" and then wouldn't ya know! There he was! He is VERY hot! I guess I'm into thuglies too.
Oh, and although Prince is itty-bitty in height, I think he is pretty hot too.
Many rock stars have this sort of "hot" going for them. Mick Jagger, Gene Simmons, Michael Stipe.... I could go on.

Uma and Charlotte are ok. Of course, either of them could afford to get me a sweet 26 foot Glacier Bay power cat with twin 150 HP outboards, a 2 kw marine radar, and a chartplotter - but that is another subject all together.
What I can not deal with is bitchiness. This instantly rules out 99% of the chicks in Miami.

Daniel, I didn't know you were listed in the BBC! Where? Congrats! As for my definition, I just go by what others tell me (since I find them attractive, myself). I will draw the line at Uma and Charlotte, though. I find them both exceedingly unattractive. But again, there are people who think they're The Bees Knees, as my grandmother would've said. ;o)

Lazy Iguana, they're average at best (from my view) which doesn't mean that they don't have wonderful qualities! Don't get me wrong. Being a thugly admirer, I realize this. But if you ever see Charlotte in Jane Eyre, you'll realize that she's really the Queen of Female Thuglies. Boats are good, though. Much can be sacrificed for a boat.

I love Hugh Laurie too. Shhhh. Don't tell my husband. But someone had to replace David James Elliott (JAG) for me. I'm glad House came along. (I wouldn't classify either as Thugly, but I don't watch much TV).
I'm not into the thuglies. I assumed they are "attractive" due to success or money. I thought the Mick Jagger example was excellent. It seems like a lot of women go for guys who seem famous, much like the men who go for the big fake boobs -- very superficial.
Notsocranky, in my case, the thing that I find overpoweringly attractive is the intelligence, personality, creativeness that each displays. Which is equally why I can't stand Tom Cruise or Brad Pitt.

Grant, what Asian woman do you find attractive? I find that most are really not all that beautiful but then that is true for all cultures. I was engaged to a Filipino man once, and he had almost slavic features - closer to Korean or perhaps Chinese than anything else. He wasn't classically handsome but he still caught everyone's eye - he projected a very strong, self-confident persona.
Oh my word, I have the hugest, massivest, crush on Jeff Goldbloom: he had me at "Independence Day". Ugh. He's tall, he's dark, and he's handsome in the "I love my dorky boyfriend" sort of way. I don't know why women don't just go wild over him! But I would definitely fall into the category of "swallowing one's tounge" if I ever did meet him in person.

Oh and by the way, up here in cheeseland, "thugly" is usually referred to anyone who thinks that wearing excessive "bling" to the point of giving oneself a neck ache is cool, and that letting your pants hang down to your knees is a fashion statement...

Uma Thurman is attractive, there's no doubt, but she is pretty in an alien sort of way.
My mother always says the pretty boys are "just boys" and she likes a manly man. I think that "manly," rugged, not so perfect qualities must be the ugly part that really isn't that ugly after all. :)

Great video and good point. I can see why women would find these men attractive - I think some women go for men that look like men. Some men are just too pretty these days - you throw some breasts on them and they would pass for women.
HELLO exhibit two. I ADORE Hugh Laurie. What is that about?!! Part of it is the accent but I watch HOUSE and still I would still be willing bear his children.
