Is George Bush the Devil?

Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez called President Bush "the Devil" in a speech to the United Nations on Wednesday. "The Devil came here yesterday," Chavez was quoted while making the sign of the cross. He added that the podium "smells of sulfur still today."

U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said Chavez's remark was "not becoming for a head of state."

Gee... ya think? Rice shouldn't have bothered opening her mouth if she was only going to come across sounding like a scolding school marm. Here's what I would like to say for her:

President George W. Bush is not the Devil. The Devil lies in the hearts and minds of those that attempt to influence others through terrorist acts. The Devil stands with the people who claim that they are peaceful, yet demand the death of a peaceful Pope who dares to speak out against them. The Devil holds hands with those who oppress women and others in the name of religion, who force genital mutilation on young women and who strap bombs to the chests of young men. The Devil embraces those who, in turn, embrace such barbarism. The Devil is with President Chavez.

And now for a politically incorrect note from me: President George W. Bush is most assuredly not the Devil. As we know, from Biblical lore, the Devil is a very intelligent creature. Bush, love him or hate him, could not be accused of posessing vast amounts of intelligence.

And President Chavez: Are you listening, Big Guy? As we used to say in grade school: He who smelt it, dealt it.

mmmmmm, good point on the brightness of Juniors light bulb

Call Bush the devil? I think not. I agree that the devil is with those who feel they must physically force others to follow their beliefs

I just find the whole UN meeting kind of ironic. I mean after all, our president went to it to represent our country yet refused to talk with other countries (Iran) and then left in the middle while everyone else stayed. In my mind, it only reinforces the saying of "Bush arrogance."

The best the Secretary of State could do was to comment that what Chavez said was "not becoming of a head of state"??

Like what Bush says IS becoming of a head of state huh?

The bulk of what Chavez said was true. That the UN does not work. And why is this? Because the sole superpower does not want it to work. This pretty much sums it all up. The "devil" comment just got all the press in the USA because the average citizen would not understand anything else.

As for the devil, I do not subscribe to his newsletter. I do not believe there is a devil, or a hell. I have my reasons. But more on that later. I have to rush off to work now.

I was glad to see some of the folks come out against Chavez. He sounded alot like some powerful Americans though.

JS, Chavez is quite the creepy character. He's made a pact w/ Iran to fight whomever comes up against them (and vice versa).

Lazy Iguana, yeah. Original, she's not. The UN doesn't work? I agree, but I don't believe it's the fault of the U.S. The U.S. happens to be the "odd man out" when it comes to world politics, but that doesn't make us wrong. You don't have to believe in the Devil to understand the concept of Chavez's slam (I know) so you certainly don't have to believe in him for me. You get what I'm saying. The Devil can stand for the concept of "evil" or anti-societal behavior, if you will.

Ed, I agree completely with you.

Mal, yes! :D

Beautifully said! I couldn't agree with you more. The devil IS VERY intelligent. There you have it. ;)

You want to see who the devil is, check this out: http://squamatareport.blogspot.com/ I think Chavez would fit right in with this group.

Lucy, I'm not sure if I understand you correctly or if I'm missing something, but I kinda like the website you pointed me to. Is it me? Is it you? Is it them? Something about this makes me happy.

I found myself smerking at Chavez's comments, on the one hand, and smiting them on the other. Considering the company Chavez keeps, including been a cafeteria buddy with the President of Iran, I take all of what he says in context.

By the way, Saur, do you know what happened to my beautiful icon that you designed? It is missing, and I love it.

I'm sick of people insulting the High Lord Lucifer by comparing him to George Bush.

Kind of reminds me of when the Ayatollah referred to America as the Great Satan. Feckin' A right! At least he knew how to show proper respect.

Excellent point about Bush not possibly being smart enough to be The Devil.

And come on, like anyone takes Chavez even remotely serious. He is a charicature.

Hey, come on, the Devil is the Prince of Lies, so acting stupid while being very smart would be a natural thing for him. And Bush is as yet unimpeached, which has got to take some clever thinkin' (except on the part of the citizens).

Seriously, you've gotta wonder what folks talked about last at the Non-Aligned Nations summit. Anyone here think Chavez's comments werent connected with some plan concocted there?

I might be in the minority on this one, but what else could Condi Rice have said without coming off like Chavez? I'm sure she has her own personal dartboard with his face on it tucked away somewhere, but she had to be diplomatic in her statements on record, or somebody would have found something wrong with that too.

Trust me, I'm sure deep down she'd like to scratch his eyes out, but her position doesn't allow that much freedom.

Bush, the Devil? No. I simply viewed it as one dictator calling another dictator names. I do, however, believe the Devil does influence dictators.

I could write volumes on that one. But I won't.

Whether that last part is politically incorrect would depend on what your politics are. I believe you are quite correct.

This will all blow over quick. We just got a taste of what it felt like when Bush named those other countries the "Axis of Evil".

What a jerk. But the worst part is when Danny Glover Hugged him. I sure do hate these guys.

Chavez is cool. It's alright for Bush to throw around the evil word but not to have it thrown right back in his face?

I think he was being sarcastic, to many people in Iraq and Afghanistan Bush is the devil, ie: a bringer of death, illness and torture.

I loved the fact that some of the most liberal Democrats came to GWB's defense. Way to go!
