You Really Should...

See

You need to rent the movie Goal. I'm not a sports fan and I can barely follow soccer. It was recommended by a friend of mine, and I decided to watch it (somewhat reluctantly).

This inspirational movie is wonderful. I have a few quibbles about it, of course. They lean toward glorifying the illegal Mexican immigrant (personified in the lead character) and there are a couple of sexually indicative scenes (but nothing too graphic) which give the movie its PG-13 rating. However, the sexual scenes are actually used as an example of what not to do.

One fan of this movie wrote "I would say this film is Bend it Like Beckham meets Gattaca." This is a movie which SaurKid is going to love. I think that I can safely say that it's a movie for your entire family to watch.

Read

There's a lot of talk around the watercoolers about Ann Coulter's new book, Godless: The Church of Liberalism.

When I saw Michael Moore's Fahrenheit 9/11, I recommended it. Whether you agree or disagree with Moore, it's necessary to see the film. I would say the same thing about this book. It's a must-read.

Coulter's asssertion that "Assuming you aren't a fetus, the Left's most dangerous religious belief is their adoration of violent criminals" may cause some readers to start frothing at the mouth. There is no doubt that she is opinionated and caustic, but she is also witty and puts forth a very convincing argument.

Being a right-leaning moderate, I may not necessarily agree with everything Coulter says. But there is a lot of enjoyment to be had from reading such statements as: "This leads to the astonishing spectacle of Teddy Kennedy, in full-dress sanctimony, getting all high and mighty with Supreme Court candidates as if the nominee had done something heinous like drown a girl and walk away from it because he had diplomatic immunity in the state of Massachusetts."

Coulter got an amazingly large advance to write this book, and you can see why her publisher thought that she was a good investment.

This is a book that will be near the top of my "Recommended" list this year. When you read it, you'll understand why.

First, than you so much Saur for fixing my icon! I really missed it.

I must confess, that Ann Coulter is on my top ten least liked people in the world. Sorry.

Kathleen, ;o) Rightly or wrongly, Coulter has a huge following. It will be interesting to see who disagrees and why. The movie is out on DVD now (I think it was released to theatres last year). You should find it at your local rental place.

Barbara, I can't take credit for the icon re-appearing. That was your host/server. But click on it and save it in your computer now, so that you have a backup! Yeah, I figured you wouldn't be a big fan of Coulter. ;o)

I am very interested in seeing Goal... i will get on that.

Coulter, well what can one say about her? I guess she is the right wing version of Michael Moore. Both make wild irresponsible statements without doing any academic research. I guess it is fun to get debates going though right?

Well I saw 911 and the movie the other night on tv, I also read Coulters book. The movies were obvious propoganda 'specially Moore's movie and Coulter is so right wing its crazy. She does make some good points though. What if the fetus is a female??? Does the female have a right to choose? I have no party affiliation except being regesterd Democrat but I vote independant, I try to hear every side and I rarely agree 100% with either but I find myself, with more and more life experience leaning more and more right.
Anyway for those who care, thats my take

But why will Coulter only hawk her book on Fox shows? Could it be that she can not defend any challenges to the crap she writes?

You have to love the "religous" right. They will find unlimited amounts of money to build bombs, but trying to get money for the homeless, or programs that allow the working poor to have health insurance makes you a communist who hates America.

But what would Jesus spend money on?

And when are the real Christians going to take their religion back from the fakers? one of my uncles is a Methodist Preacher. You should hear what he has to say about those who tout Christian values and religion - then ride around in limos and live in palacial homes.

There is nothing wrong with core Christian Values. Too bad they conflict with our market based economic system - otherwise they might be followed.

Thanks for the reviews, Saur. The movie looks great - looks like we'll have a new DVD in our collection when it comes out.

LI
being a hard core Independant I must take you to task here. If Ann's mess. wasn't coveted then her book would have failed. Everyone, including me, knew what her book said. I don't agree wioth alot of her book but I see where the "religios right" has absofuckinlutely whipped the ass of the liberal left for a longgggggggggggggggggggggggg time.
So she can't be all that wrong in the eyes of the voting populus.
just some rambling from Jsull28fl@yaho

Sorry I dont think she is the same as Michael moore. Because while he is often off the mark, often liberal for the sake of being liberal: She is hardly ever right. And she acts the way she does just to make money. She fuels the problem while moore is always respectful of people even if he doesnt like them.
