Pics of Pie

Presenting Pie the Possum...

She is thinking of starting her own blog.

She finds my blog fascinating. She's reading my latest entry here.

Attention Dell: I'm willing to sell this picture to you for a modest sum. It will obviously greatly improve your current advertising.

Here she is gazing at me in rapt adoration. Actually, I assume she's wondering if we're going to eat her. But she's adjusting quite nicely, overall. Right now, it's hard to believe that she will grow to the size of a small housecat.

Looks cute, but would barely cook up to a good meal. Fatten him up first. ;)

When you said it wanted to start its own blog I thought I would introduce you to a blog I started early last year about something I adopted.
http://mymonsterblog.blogspot.com/
It is blog based so start at the beginning and work your way through.

Forgive the rough grammer in it.

There once was a possum named pie
Who got stuck in the wall and might die
Along came saur
who made her smell like a flower
And now pie is not quite so shy.

Thanks, everyone! I am sorry I didn't interract more today, but I worked super late tonight. :p

She IS a cutie, isn't she??? Wow, what a mess she left for me today, though. I honestly think she was mad that we used a flash camera on her (she jumped and bared her teeth each time).

Possums are supposed to be as smart as, or smarter than, dogs! So I wouldn't be surprised if she was getting even with me.

Oh, Dddragon, go here to read about how we found her.

That's the prettiest live oppossum I ever saw. I guess maybe it's the ONLY live possum I ever saw. All the rest seemed to have been successfully training as roadkill.

Actonbell, yeah, pretty wild, isn't it? The males get even bigger than that. I'm really relieved we didn't find a little boy possum.

She has a little pouch on her tummy, too, because she's female. It's very cute. I need to get a picture of it when she's feeling more charitable toward us.

Horsetailsnake, *LOL* Yeah. Most of her relatives don't make it across the road, do they? We haven't really told her this yet, though. I don't want to make her any more nervous than she already is...

I apologize for beating a dead horse but here goes. I use to raise rabbits for their coats. There was a time when a woman from the Jersey Shore wouldn’t even go out without her fancy nails and rabbit coat. This was a great time to be in fashion because rabbits grew quickly. Enter the opossums. I didn’t notice my rabbits were disappearing because of the shear number of them, but one night, I got tired of the cats having loud wild sex outside of my window. I shined my flashlight out back and low and behold a rabbit being eaten by an opossum sounds just like cats have sex. Live and learn.

Bleah. Lovely, Mr. Gator. The vet tells me that possums are actually very gentle and can be tamed easily. Of course if they're left to run wild, they're feral just as domestic house cats can go feral.

You're right about the coats. I read somewhere that possums were orginally bred for coats. I don't see why; her coat isn't all that spectacular to me.

Saur:

Pie is a CUTIE! However, a year from now, Pie will be UGLY. Yech!
Especially when she opens that big mouth of hers and gives you the "evil eye." Yech! Sorry, it touches a nerve in me. It reminds me when I was a teenager when I used to live-trap cottontail rabbits at night; I'd find possums in the traps instead. YECH! I hated it. Shivers.

Saur♥Kraut said...

Underground, Well if you were caught in a trap, I'll bet you wouldn't be looking too attractive, either. *g*

Emmanuel, thanks! Where've you been?

Justine, this type of possum is our most common type. It's called The Virginia Possum. I guess it was originally bred for fur coats, but got loose and is now throughout the US (?) I don't know how accurate that tale is, but it's more than possible.

Ajay, thanks! I knew you wanted to see my little monster.

Lennie, *LOL* And Pie says..."What's wrong with rats?" Actually, possums eat rats in the wild (they're more like housecats).
Her teeth are very doglike.

L, I love your little blog! Glad you like Pie!
