"The world is so full of a number of things, I'm sure we should all be as happy as kings." -Robert Louis Stevenson
When I was a little girl, I used to love A Child's Garden of Verses by Stevenson. The quote popped into my head today; I suppose because I needed the reminder. Perhaps you do, too?
This is a short post because the physical therapy I've been enduring involves them stretching areas that have never been stretched before, and I am very sore and laying on ice until the worst of the spasms pass this morning. Then, up and at 'em!
While I'm laying on the ice, pampering myself, I'm indulging in reading The Twelfth Card by Jeffery Deaver. He's the author who wrote The Bone Collector and his same team of heroes is solving yet another crime. It's excellent and I highly recommend it! Being the fussy reader I am, you can take my word for it when I say it's hard to put it down.
Have a great Thursday morning and I hope to be back to my normal self (well, as normal as *I* get) tomorrow! ;o)

You just jogged a long forgotten memory of my mother reading the same thing to me...
Do you remember the line in Alice in Wonderland where the baby turned into a pig, I think, and somebody said, "I rather tho't she would!?"
I used to laugh myself silly when I was 6 and make her read that line over and over.
take care today....uj
I hope you are feeling better. The Twelfth Card? Never heard of it. Knowing that you can't put it down, it has to be interesting.
See ya soon !!!
Might have to check that stuff out. I hope that you feel better real soon.
Scott
Sorry to hear you are sore. Hope you are beginning to feel better very soon!
GAH! Jeffrey Deaver is my favorite author (like you, I'm fussy, I read very little fiction) ... I didnt even know he had a new one out.
The Bone Collector is probably my favorite book ever. (For those who want to cheat and just see the movie, DON'T. It stinks, they ruined it)
I'm totally in love with Lincoln Rhyme and Gil Grissom (CSI) - LOL. I just love their minds.
Hope your arm's better soon, lady. Hugs!
Stevenson's book came up at a party on Sunday and most of us have never read it. I'll have to remedy that.
I hope the ice kicks in and you're feeling better soon!!
Heather, thanks! I think it was a good read, though TC has a point, too.
TC, I see your point, and I get it. But I think overall he's done one of the most realistic portrayals of black americana today without doing to much to defend or encourage much of it. I do get what you're saying, thought. But I think that overall he's saying the gangsta ways of life are a dead-end and the only hope for a black youth is to get educated and get out of the ghettos.
Clew, My crush for Jeff Goldblum has finally been supplanted by Hugh Laurie who plays Greg House. Like you, I love thinking and interesting men!
Barbara, thanks, hon.
Scott, you'll enjoy it, it's a wonderful read!
Deb, it was excellent. I just finished it and I'd highly recommend it!
Uncle Joe, I adored Lewis Carroll's books. When I was only 5 I already knew his real name was Charles Lutwidge Dodgson and I've never forgotten it. I used to awe adults, rather like a trained pet monkey. But with my parents being so educated, it just came naturally to me. One of my fave rhymes (which came from the same portion you just quoted) goes:
Speak roughly to your little boy, And beat him when he sneezes: He only does it to annoy, Because he knows it teases...
It just always seemed so...ridiculous, which was the charm, I suppose.
best thing for that back...jim beam.
fylnbcjw?
Ouch! Glad to see that you are moving forward on the therapy, but I sympathize with the pain involved with the cure. I was hoping that the surgery would give you instant relief. I suppose that was just too much wishful thinking.
Ice really helps, but I hate the stuff on my body. Hope you are taking an anti-inflammatory, too.
Saur,
Have you ever tried smokin crack to reduce the pain?
Reading sounds like such fun I wish I could sit still that long.
Hope you feel better.
i need a good book, a good drink and a good.... ;-)
massage!
therapy is torture, but worth it in the long run.
I read "A Child's Garden Of Grass", written by some hippie.
It is a funny book. At least I thought so when I read it in high school. This is where I learned about "the spoon game" and "the stick game".
:) I once found the hundred acre wood by acciden. But I came back so late at night that I could not remember in the morning.
i hope the soreness goes away soon and that the physical therapy actually pays off soon for you!
the picture posted could have been of my oldest daughter, carly, just a few short years ago. i love it!
