727

I haven't talked about the band 727 before. I guess it's because I'm very close friends with one of the guys in the band, and I didn't want it to seem like bragging. I also didn't want to appear to be a gushing 'follower' or an idiotic groupie, because these guys have serious talent. They're so good that they recently signed with a famous promoter.

If you click on the 727 link, you'll hear the song "Killing My Sunshine." Once you hear it (even if you don't like alternative music), you'll understand why they are about ready to explode onto the national scene. You can also see where they're playing, and read a couple articles on them. And if you go see them, chances are that I'll be there too.

They're playing at Guavaween this year, which is really exciting because Guavaween is huge here. Think Mardi Gras, and you've got the concept.

They also do a free guitar give-away periodically, but you've gotta be present to win so that lets some of you out. I think that's a pretty cool gimmick!

This area has churned out some top-notch musicians, including Jim Morrison of the Doors (one of my older friends grew up with him and remembers Jim crashing on his couch on the weekends). Creedence Clearwater Revival also came from (obviously) Clearwater. Other talent came from here or ended up living in this area (like Tom Petty and the Hearbreakers, The Bellamy Brothers, Hulk Hogan, John Travolta, a couple guys from famous 'Boy Bands', etc.) And if you go further south, you can add at least half of everyone in the music scene, including Jimmy Buffet. So, I think these guys have a good shot at making it, don't you?

Ajay, fascinating blog today! I mean, where do you dig up this stuff?

TC, CU there! I'm going to try to drag Michelle and hubby along with us too.

Florida itself has churned out some talent. Creed is from Tallahasse or Gainesville (I forget) and Lynard Skynard was from Jacksonville or Pensacola, even though they sing about "Sweet Home Alabama". Maybe they are from Pensacola. It's close enough to Alabama to be considered home...but I digress.

Those are two that stand out the most for me. I can't really think of anyone else that you haven't mentioned.

727 is only partly big. 747, now, is really big. I flew in one, once.

Very cool, they are good, even though I had to listen through my computer speakers. I am going to have to check out their site too.

You are always full of cool surprises Saur.

And on a side note, If I am ever in Florida I am definitely stopping by, and when is that Strawberry Festival? Maybe I will plan now to come to it next year!

Hugs!

Lissette, yeah, you're right! I'd forgotten about those. Thanks!

Old Hoss, I flew on a monster over to Europe. What a trip!

Eddo, thanks! I try! But then so do YOU. Great post today about the interview, where we got to learn more about your dancing. That's very cool.

They do sound good, even on PC speakers.

I had no idea there was so much talent in Florida.

Can anyone actually understand the lyrics, but I guess it’s not that important with alternative rock. I do think Guavaween will be a good fit for their style of music.

I do enjoy Guavaween, my wife already has her costume, I still can’t decide.

I'm so out of it these days, I never even heard of them. I do like their sound, though! Hope they hit it big.

AP3, well, it's not likely you'd have heard of them yet. They're still a Tampa Bay Area phenomenon only.

Bandmom, go to their site and you'll find it. Are you coming with?

I just wondered why my babysitting services were not considered. That is the night of band competition at Tropicana Field though. Michelle better talk to mom sooner than later. I don't know if she is going to prelims or finals.
