Now, before I get any angry teachers commenting on this, let me state that many of my friends and family are teachers. Most teachers are marvellous individuals who are teachers because they feel they wanted to enrich childrens' lives. That, and they are intrepid warriors who have the patience of saints. If the US Government appointed only teachers as ambassadors, we'd probably have world peace!
However, there are always the people who get into professions dealing with children because they want access to the kids for less noble purposes. These professions include youth group and boy scout leaders, priests and pastors, and teachers (among other child-oriented professions I can't think of right now).
Authority figures have the ability to manipulate children, if they choose to, and the spate of child molestation cases proves it. Almost everyone (except perverts) finds child molestation abhorrent - the product of a sick mind. But sadly, there is a difference in the way a molester is perceived if she is female.
We have yet another molestation case in the Tampa Bay area involving a female teacher. In the past it has sickened me to hear radio show hosts talk repeatedly about how "hot" the molester was ("wink, wink, nudge, nudge") as if being an attractive female ameliorates the atrocity. They also say repeatedly, "Oh be honest. Wasn't this your dearest dream when you were a kid?" Hell no, it wasn't!
But even if a kid does have fantasies like that, does it make it right to take advantage of that? After all, some kids have fantasies about killing their teachers, too. Would it be OK if they were encouraged to do it?!
This current teacher was a phys ed coach, who ended up seducing a female student. Will this cause even more lascivious comments or will it be condemned because it's a lesbian relationship? Either choice would be the wrong way to handle it. If a child is molested, it's a tragedy. It doesn't matter if it's a same-sex or opposite sex molestation. It is something that no society should tolerate or excuse, under any circumstances. And those fools who are on the radio need to use their last operating brain cells to re-evaluate their terrible reactions.

You are right on the money and I agree about the morons they allow air time. Out here we had two that thought it would call attention to recent drowndings if they drowned a dog on the air. They "never indended to really drowned a dog" even though they went ahead and played the sounds of one suffering. They are still working. It makes me ill to contemplate.
I think because my kids are now ages 15 & 17, that these cases where teachers are having sex with their students really hit home.
Any teachers, even those who are young themselves (early twenties), should never cross those boundaries.
These young, "hot" teachers are obviously dealing with some sick problems if they have to resort to having "secret" sex with underage students instead of pursuing normal, adult relationships, which shouldn't be hard, since they are attractive.
Making excuses for them as opposed to if they were older, fatter and not so "hot" is just stupid. The harm they do is just as damaging.
And _I_ just read this in the context that says, "Great, now they'll ban gays from teaching, too."
As a semi-related tidbit ... saw on msn.com today about an L.A. phys ed teacher (28 yrs) having sex with a 13-year old -- at his house AND at school.
What are some people thinking???
I am right there with you. It is ABSOLUTELY wrong! I don't need to go on any further with this, because I just couldn't say enough.
Agreed. No one over 21 should have sex with anyone under 17. No TEACHER should have sex with any student even if the kid is 18 or 19. It's just out of the question. And of course the teacher knows that. Otherwise they would do it openly.
Excellent post. Those radio guys must be blind because I didn’t find that woman attractive either. The public school system in many ways endorses lesbianism and quite frankly should be applauded for embracing alternative lifestyles. The leader of the initiative to attract hot women into the lesbian field has been spearheaded by the video industry, which has made it quite acceptable and lucrative for an attractive young lady to embrace this lifestyle. There for a while it seemed like the lesbian field was reserved for homely looking women. I thought I read somewhere that 25% of 8th grade girls were lesbians. This statistic certainly warrants the school systems to keep closer tabs on their female pedophile teachers.
Yeah. Teachers shouldn't sleep with their students, period. It's true that somehow people don't take it as seriously when it's a female teacher, but it's just as wrong.
Radio talk shows all have but ONE goal - get ratings. Thats it. All radio shows are to be taken as entertainment value only. They say things just to get people up in a tizzy so they call in and tune in daily to hear the next statement.
In fact, why are you even listening to the trash known as AM talk radio, or the total crap known as FM morning shows? Get Sirius Satellite Radio and be done with it all.
Well said. Where has all the morality gone? As Americans we like to laugh away the horror and the tragedy instead of dealing with it.
I grew up in Chicago and I heard from several friends and relatives that molestors were "dealt with" by the mob. Nobody complained, because everyone was glad the mob got to them before the police did.
Nowadays, I don't see how someone could go and molest multiple subjects and not get shot. Oh, I forgot. We have tons of lawyers and no guns nowadays. Never mind.
