All About Me (well, at least a LOT about me...)

I must really apologize to each of you. I'm not neglecting your blogs, and I'm very interested in you and what you have to say, or I wouldn't bother posting in your blog to begin with. If you look halfway down this post, you'll find some interesting reading!

But, here's what's on my plate these last couple days (and it's why I'm not as responsive as I'd like to be):

1. Neck Pain: My surgery (I have two disks being fused in my neck) happens next Wednesday. I will probably be out of BlogLand for at least 2 days. It's a serious procedure where they make you sign a living will, but the mortality rate is very low(?!) It seems they can't make up their minds!

They go in through the front of the throat, and remove the cracked disks (or their remnants) and replace them with cadaver bone which will eventually 'fuse' together. Mmmm, yummy! If I start to have multiple personalities, we'll know that they're coming from Great Aunt Mabel.

2. I am a workaholic. There are some days that I get distracted and breathe again, but they're few and far between. Right now, I have too many pans in the fire, and in addition I need to train my assistant in depth.

Also, I have to get my house in order so that I don't go insane looking around me while I'm in bed for several days. Of course, I can hope that I'll be sleeping during that time, but other people will have to be here and there's no sense giving them heart failure.

Incidentally, I think it is also time to come clean with my living arrangements, as a friend has euphemistically termed it. I refer rarely to my immediate family: I am a single, divorced female who has been living with the same guy for 6 years (my choice, not his, I should add - he wishes to get married). Many people who know us believe that we ARE married.

I have a son, he has a daughter. That's why I speak more of my son (and am obviously closer to him).

When and if anyone can ever convince me that marriage is any different than living together, I'll get married. But I have examined it backwards and forwards, and see no reason that I need the government's blessing. I don't wish to disappoint my parents, but in my mind there are more powerful reasons to not get married at this time. If I ever choose to share those with you, I will. For now, I remain reticent.

BUT, there are many of you that are just getting to know me. At this point, I would like to recommend re-runs. Hey, the networks do it all the time! Here are some posts that will let you see exactly who I am (NOTE: They are posts that span from May - October of 2005):

Saur, I am wishing you a fast and speedy recovery. Do what the doctors say and rest. This is a serious operation in the respect that the time to mend must be honored. You don't want to impede the healing nor damage the new repair.

Love your blog and will like the reruns.

Kathleen, thanks, hon! I do wish you'd start your own. You always have very interesting and insightful comments in my (and others) blogs. But, you're probably like Tabasamu (TC) and choose to comment instead of maintain such a monster. ;o)

I just added a major revision, so you might wish to refresh your screen.

Good luck on the operation! Sounds awful actually.

But I have known someone in "real life" who had the procedure, and had no problems at all.

All the best.

Have a good weekend. I'm sure you are anxious in both a good and bad way for your surgery. I hope that it all goes perfectly and you can finally have some pain free days for a change.
Hopefully, they will give you some good pain meds that will inspire some great blog posts.

I wish you the best of luck with your surgery and look forward to yo making it back and being A ok. I will also be keeping an eye out for any signs of great aunt Mable. Best of wishes.

Hell, you can live with Tom & Jerry for all I care. What I care about is what you're up to, what interesting things you have to say, and your take on various varieties of turnips. Keep smiling, and wishing you well on that operation. Sending good vibes from now through next Thursday, by which time you will be eating cookies, again.

I am a workaholic.

Me too. Had to take a year off of work because my wife said I didn't spend enough time with the family once. I've calmed down since then and now spend more time with the family.

As for your neck pain, good luck. Neck injuries suck. That ended Sterling Sharpe's career, one of my fav Packers.

As for Saliva, I'll have to check them out. I'm a total metalhead.

Heavy metal bands usually pride themselves on being intelligent.

Very, very true. Some of the smartest people I've ever known were metalheads. Didn't look intelligent, but dang, when they opened up their mouths...

I'll check out some of your other links later. Love the one about America Losing Key Jobs.

Good Luck on your surgery! Yup, the surgeons scare the !@#$#@ out of you when they have you do that paperwork. *L* Good thing they never read mine

As far as marriage goes? fffbbbtttt! It is either a committed relationship or not and a piece of paper will not change that! On the good news side, look at all the money the two of you save every year on the "Marriage Tax"!

Saur,

Are you sure this guy isn’t just too lazy to move out? Men aren’t normally attracted to know-it-alls. You must be a great cook?

I’ll pray for you because there’s no doubt where you’re going if you pass on the table.

Gosh, I cannot stand surgery of any kind. It makes me a nervous wreck. Good luck, I hope you have a speedy recovery and can get back to us very soon. Sounds like you have a lot going on right now. You know, when it rains it pours, hopefully it will just be sprinkling for you shortly.

Mr. Gator, I honestly read that and laughed out loud. Thanks for making me laugh. I'm not a bad cook, if I do say so myself! However, I rarely do cook. It must be something else I excel in... ;o)

Lee Ann, thanks, hon! I AM a nervous wreck. One of my employees called me last night and said "Wow, I'll be you're really scared, aren't you?" I could see the others poking him fiercely to shut him up. But you know what? I told him that I was really glad he acknowleged my fears and empathized with them.

Mallory, Yeah, I've never quite figured out the whole marriage tax deal. I keep hearing you SAVE money by being married, then I hear you DON'T(?) I've never been motivated enough to find out which was true... Any thoughts?

FTS, Thank you. Who knows? Maybe I'll be channelling Aunt Mabel, or maybe... it could be like those horror movies where my neck takes on a life of its own and I'll be doing the funky chicken at awkward moments.

Zombieslayer, it's almost like... I get bored easily, you know? So I often wonder how much is workaholism and how much is just straight staving off boredom? I admit I feel guilty when I DON'T work, though...

Saliva is excellent. You will truly love them. Try 727 too, even though they're a local band. I'm happy I look younger than I am, though. Everyone who goes to hear them is 20something. ;o)

Ms. L, thanks, hon.

Meegan, I appreciate it, sweetie.

OldHoss, *hugz* There are turnip varieties? Come to think of it, I HAVE seen purple pureed turnips in a restaurant somewhere... *shudder*

Eating cookies again... from your mouth to god's ear, as they say...

Lumpy, Let's just hope she's not crochety. I'm crochety enough for the both of us. And I'm only 30-something.

Jamie Dawn, thank you, hon. And I hear the meds are great! I just don't want anything that will make me hallucinate (I've had stuff like that before in hospitals). I don't want to worry about Large Purple Snorklewacks or Jerry Falwell...

Alydyn, thank you! You know, it's funny: I put off having surgery for the longest time because I knew a woman who'd had it years ago and was sporting the most ATROCIOUS Frankenstein-like neck scar. It looked as if the Grim Reaper had been unsuccessful in taking off her head.

Now, my Dr. tells me, I won't even need a neck brace because materials have advanced so much!

Acton Bell, of course! The Pez's are like family!

TLP, thanks, mom. ;o)

We talked last night...just wanted to remind you I can have the kids come over on the weekend.

Actually depending on how MY kids are I may beg you to let them come over. When the boys get together I could leave the house for hours and they would never know. As long as I leave food that is. LOTS OF FOOD!

Hi saur,
Hope that the surgery goes well and that you get well really soon. You got our prayers with you.

Saur, a couple with both spouses working will pay more income tax than if they worked the same jobs and filed as single. We do our own taxes and for entertainment did ours both ways. We could save about $5K per year if we were divorced. So yes, despite the bologna coming out of Washington, there is a "marriage tax"

Sorry I haven't been around much - family stuff, you know how it is...

Just wanted to drop by and wish you the best with your surgery. And a speedy recovery.

Always Questioning, I understand perfectly! I'm often in the same boat and it's always a struggle. Thank you very much, I appreciate it.

Alex, I know! You were quite surprised to find out I was female recently. I guess my writing style (and my personality in real life is exactly the same) is very strong and that's often uncharacteristic for women (sadly).

Mallory, INTERESTING. Thanks very much.

Ajay, I appreciate your dropping by. I don't 'see' much of you lately!

Michelle, they can certainly have the run of the house here if they'd like! There's plenty of space and The Other Half and other adults (since The Other Half doesn't quite qualify as an adult) will be around. Or, vice versa~! ;o)
