Today the subjects are not related, but all are of interest, so please bear with me!
C.S. Lewis
C.S. Lewis is one of my favorite authors of all time, because he was able to succinctly explain Christianity, ethics, and morality to the common man in a palatable and interesting way. Yes, I'm a Christian (please understand that I'm an imperfect one, of course!) and I've always adored his way of presenting my faith in an intelligent, rational manner. Even if you're a dyed-in-the-wool atheist, C.S. Lewis is still worth reading; which makes him exceedingly unusual.
There's an excellent discussion of Lewis and an application of his beliefs to modern issues in the October issue of Imprimis. Of course it's controversial, but you guys thrive on controversy! It's not long, and I highly recommend it. Which leads me to...
Hillsdale College
Hillsdale College is an unusual and exceptional private college (only 1200 students) and the publisher of Imprimis. I first learned of it in the late 80s when the press announced that this quirky little college in Michigan actually was refusing federal funds! This was unheard of back then!
Hillsdale's reasoning: if you accept federal funds, you accept federal authority when it comes to education. They didn't want to be under the thumb of the government. So, they chose to create their own student loan program for their students and they are able to teach what they want, how they want to. Note: they are accredited. This is the college that I would choose to attend if I were about to go into college again.
My Surgery
I am going into surgery on Wednesday. I don't know what time yet (the hospital calls only the night before to let you know when they're going to take you!) This is serious surgery, as you know, and I will be out of BlogLand for at least Wednesday and Thursday. Please keep me in your prayers.
In the meantime, I have a list of some of my favorite posts (the ones which define my core beliefs) here.
If you'd like an update on how I'm doing, Michelle will be posting an update in this particular post.
Thank you, and God bless.

I will definitely keep you in my prayers as the doctors work on you.
I have heard of C.S. Lewis, is he into apologetics of some sort? I believe someone gave me one of his books,--which I have to read. I can write a novel, but reading a book is quite a task for me. Go figure!
Take care, please let us know how you're doing.
Saur, you will be in my prayers. I have had several surgeries and although the surgeries were not high risk, I still had a little concern in the back of my mind. I think that when you have young children, it is more unsettling. Hang in there, I am sure you have done all the right things to insure the best outcome. Most important thing you can do now is relax and commit to following the post surgery recovery protocol. With a family that can be hard, but necessary.
Take care.
Best wishes for a good surgery and a great recovery!
:-)
Laura
Well, gee, Saur, you snuck up on us. Sending 4-leaf clovers by email, and rubbing rabbits' feet. (Sorry, but Big Ernie and I don't see eye to eye, but I wanted you to know I care about you.) Best wishes, kid.
I'm glad you are finally getting the help you need. Pain is a tough thing to deal with day in and day out. I hope you will feel like a new woman when this is all over.
C.S. Lewis was one of a kind.
Very interesting about Hillsdale...
I am also a HUGE C.S. Lewis fan, the guy was a genius. I heard that he and Tolkien were friends.
The surgery, I will be praying for you, ouch! I will pray that the surgery goes well and that it actually fixes the problem and that you are 100% better!
Much Love.
I am praying! Will update everyone tomorrow evening.
Loved the Narnian Chronicles and read them all to my kids. He was somethin' else!
Best wishes, and I'll be thinking of you!!
I'll be thinking about you, Saur! I'm sure all will go will. Looking forward to hearing from you afterwards.
My prayers are with you and your family. When I was in the hospital I always enjoyed listening for the music that meant a baby had been born.
I don't believe in God so no prayers but plenty of positive thoughts.
You are in my prayers! I know you will do fine!
I spoke with Sautkraut's other half around 3:45pm. Saurkraut's surgery went very well. The doctor felt it went exactly as expected. She will be in the hospital overnight and go home tomorrow. I will try to get in touch with her tomorrow evening and post again.
Although I did not speak to Saurkraut I KNOW she appreciates ALL the prayers. I sure she will still be in pain from surgery for a while, so keep the prayer going.
Glad to hear it, and thx for keeping us updated!
Best of luck. I'll keep you in my thoughts.
Get Well Soon. I hope today's surgery went well and that you will be fully recovered and pain-free soon.
I hope you're feeling better soon and the the surgery relieves your pain.
C.S. Lewis - It never occurred to me that he was a Christian author. I guess I always saw it as fantasy, which is probably foolish of me, having been an English major and all.
The School - I would love to go there. In fact, I would love to start my own.
You will be in my prayers.
CS Lewis was definitely a gifted writer.
Hillsdale... huh, who knew? Sounds great!
Good luck! I don't pray, but I do send healing thoughts to you.
i'm glad the surgery went well, saur. it was a shock to read about major surgery, and you had us worried! (my wife is online with me ... a compromise situation since she says i pay too much attention to blogging.) remember to take it easy, God has things under control.
Glad to here that the surgery went well. I hope you will finally be pain free. Don't forget to take the time to heal. Work and other duties can wait.
Glad your surgery went well. Now, relax and try to recover. :-)
I am died in the wool... lol :)
But I will give it a shot next time I am in the libs.
Bathroom Review
Rocketry
I spoke with Saurkraut's other half again tonight. She is home as scheduled. In a lot of pain, but resting. She should be able to get up and about a little over the weekend. Will keep you all posted if I hear anything else.
I'm not a pray-er, but I'm thinking of you and wishing you well.
I love C.S. Lewis too. I recently re-read Out of the Silent Planet and loved it. I'm also a lifelong fan of Narnia. I think I have large sections of those books by heart.
Thinking about you. Hope you are feeling better.
Good luck and may God bless.
Talked to Saurkraut. She is doing ok. She was not happy with the hospital care. I will let her tell you about that experience. Of course instead of resting she is trying to work some. We will have to talk to her about that when she gets back. She has a lot of help from family and friends so whe is getting through the weekend being cared for properly. Her computer is giving her trouble so it may be another day or so. Will continue to update you all.
PS. She knows about the many thoughts and prayer you are giving!
I am glad she's doing pretty well. NO ONE is ever happy with the hospital care. I also enjoyed the link to all her favorite posts. As a latecomer to blogenalia, I wasn't familiar with her early stuff. Saur, when you read this, feel prayed for and appreciated. (I wrote a response to your "core" stuff but it was so long I put it on my own blog-- with a link)
Great news. Thanks for the update.
Glad she came thru in good enough condition to gripe..LOL, means she's going to be fine.
Have been there, so praying for a quick healing.
Now we all have to hope and pray this surgery worked. Of course she is in pain due to the procedure at this point. The whole purpose was to eliminate pain altogether.
Just came by to check in. Thanks for the update!
I'm glad the surgery is over and Saur is home. Now, for the recovery.... Take it easy and get well soon.
Yes you know there are thousands of us who care about you and hope you get back to 100% ASAP!
Me also.
(sheesh, vsvpmhan? Why can't they keep this "word" verification sort of simple..what sort of word is that?)
Hi from Tunis! Thought I'd say hello. It's been a while. Multiple apologies....need plenty of time to catch up:-) Hope all is well.
