The Bathroom
Today I start on my son's bathroom. There's a lot of work to be done. I'll be taking before and after pictures of the floor. It's terrazzo, which is a concrete treatment that's not done anymore. The problem with terrazzo is that it turns colors and can be a nuisance to upkeep. You can either strip and refinish it or do what I'm going to try; staining it in a lovely fawn/beige and finishing it with a glossy topcoat. I'll let you know how successful I am! Have a wonderful weekend!

With hubby's tile work and fixture replacing/refurbish, and now your floor staining Saurkids bathroom will look great!
Oooooooh, fun
I'vew always maintained that whatever your floor is made of, it should be dirt-colored. Its one reason I like wood. So you are going in the right direction!
The new stain sounds like it will be great.
Have a good weekend.
Our kitchen needs painting if you feel like stopping buy with a brush and some wine!
Nihilistic, I'd be there if you two didn't live so far away!!! ;o)
Lee Ann, I think it's going to look awesome!
Mr. Fabulous, I used to do lots of "projects" before this last ill-fated relationship. It's energizing to get back into it.
Miss C, not a bad philosophy, actually!
Susie, I really, really wish you were here.
Reverb, you're right! After I read what you wrote, I noticed pitting in the floor. Maybe it had always been there. But you have an excellent point. This treatment should blend in the imperfections and the gloss should fill in the pitting.
3 Score & 10, yes!!!
Michelle, your hubby's so talented. He can do almost anything, it seems! The tile looks great. Wait'll you see it! I took a pic already for the blog. I'll publish it when I publish the before and afters.
I always thought it would be cool to have gutters along the walls inside a house. That way you could just push all the crap that gets on the floor into the gutter then "flush" the house clean. Nifty huh?
What would be even better is a steel mesh floor! Then whatever crap fell to the floor could just keep falling.
too bad we don't live closer, i'd love to help out and then have you return the favor. i've got tons of ugly wallpaper the former owners thought was adorable that
must come down, and i am entirely too unmotivated to do it myself.
redecorating buddies would be fun :)
Isn't remodeling so much fun? I've done every room in my house over except the kitchen, basement office, and laundryroom. How nice it was to see the 70's look disappear! Now my house is slowly resembling the "cottage" look I was going for. Of course it helps that hubby is an ex-carpenter, and I was the apprentice.
Good luck.... the results are worth the effort, and you find yourself constantly going back to look the room over after it is finished. Can't wait to see the pictures!
Yah, that's good, Saur. Then throw a rug over it. Heh.
Saur,
On time when I redid a bathroom I found that there were 3 layers of tile on the floor. I thought the throne was kinda close to the floor.
My bathroom is rather large but the most impressive part of it is the fan. The fan motor sounds like an Osprey takin off.
Good luck. And be careful with the light fixture once I purchased one that put me in a bad light.
Hey Saur,
Thought I'd let you know that terrazzo IS still done - I work for a terrazzo company! :)! It's a great floor choice for say hospitals, schools, airports, and similar high traffic commercial areas. It's not a good application for a residence though. For the reasons you cited, as well as the cost.
The stuff will last forever though. Good luck with your staining project!
Yes, we are going to need pictures of this! I love home improvement - especially when it isn't costing me any work or money!
Saur I'll get back to you on the floor questions. I do the bookkeeping - I need to ask my coworkers for advice. LOL!
